FAQs: Going Back to School

Is it too late to go back to school at 30 or 40?

It is never too late to return to school and learn a new skill no matter what age you are! Whether you are looking to begin or finish your degree, DeVry has a great selection of programs for today’s working adults.

Why should I go back to school as an adult?

There are many reasons to return to school as an adult. Some reasons might include preparing for a new career or finishing your degree.

If you’ve considered returning to the classroom as an adult, you’re not alone.

The number of nontraditional students (those over the age of 25) has been rising since 2007. In fact, 38% of enrolled students on college campuses were considered nontraditional during the period of 2007–2018, according to the National Center for Education Statistics (NCES).

What type of education should I pursue as a working adult?

This might be one of the most exciting questions when considering returning to school. To meet the needs of today’s working adults, DeVry’s Undecided Option and Tech Core programs allow students to explore different skills before choosing the right career path for them. These programs are designed to expose students to such fields as healthcare, business and management and technology.

Can I earn a degree online with DeVry?

You bet! As a leader in online education, DeVry University has been offering online degree programs since 1998. In addition to 100% online courses, we also offer a hybrid learning environment that combines online and in-person learning at one of over 40+ campus locations.

Earn your certificate, associate, bachelor’s, master’s or MBA all online and at your own pace!

Can my work experience help me when going back to school?

Yes! Your work experience is not only invaluable but can help lay the groundwork for your education whether you are continuing in the same field or choosing a different career path. At DeVry, our degree and certificate programs are designed to enhance your current skills or help you build new ones.

Can I work full time while earning an education at DeVry?

Absolutely! At DeVry, our degree programs are designed with working adult students in mind.

Many students choose our online programs for the convenience of being able to study around their busy schedules.

How long does it take to earn a degree taking part-time classes at DeVry?

Traditionally, a bachelor’s degree takes four years to earn, while an associate degree takes two years. At DeVry, however, our online courses are offered in year-round 8-week sessions so that you can earn a degree in a shorter timeframe while studying part-time.

The amount of time it will take you to earn your degree also depends on which program you choose and any qualifying transfer credits you may have.
